HJC's popular RPHA-70 is on the way out. And the RPHA-71 is on its way in...
Excellent fit and finish, good quality paint and fits me very well.
Unfortunately it produces a horrible, turbulent, howling noise above 40mph, due to two holes on the bottom of the helmet, one near the sun visor switch and one on the other side.
The noise is deafening at motorway speeds even with ear plugs in, and afterwards my ears were ringing.
Took straight back to the Bristol shop after wearing it the once, they refused a refund.
Unfortunately I will need to buy a different helmet from somewhere else, as this one is unusable for me due to the shrieking/howling.
Look online and you'll see other people with this problem. Not everyone gets it, it might depend on the bike too.
But my advice is to avoid this helmet, or you might end up with a £450 useless ornament for your garage.
The helmet is light and comfy. Like the DD fastener. Excellent advice from the shop.
Great helmet. I have not used HJC for a while but as usual this company offers premium features and finish. Drop down visor is great. it has an adjustment for how low it should drop. I recently purchased Ariai Tour V. I think HJC is better and it does not brake the bank. Great value for money.
I really hate to do this, but just trying to save someone else out there spending the money. I really like HJC, and have owned their excellent helmets before, but these were both R-PHA 11. I have just bought the R-PHA 71, and the noise around the ears (and yes, I do wear earplugs) is deafening ! It`s a beautiful helmet, and I really wanted to love it, but I won`t be wearing it again, it`s THAT bad. It`s back to Shoei for me now, I think.
I did a lot of research before this purchase, ordered M 58cm very snug fit I though to tight at first but it's now perfect, love the features and finish a good buy.
Well built lid, fits well. The HJC intercom was easy to fit
This is my 5th HJC helmet I seem to be drawn to them , always comfortable fitting. The RPHA 71 is the same just very comfortable to wear, it didn't matter that it was comms ready but this one is and I treated myself. Got he 50 B all fitted in , I'm not a fan of the visor lip on the side and the visor itself is a bit ratchety. Once closed you have good vision and the Air vents keep you breathing, there is some wind noise but not excessive. All in all a good helmet from HJC although the prices vary for the colour schemes by quite a lot
I've used a mix of Arai and HJC for a number of years now and although in my opinion nothing compares to the quality of an Arai, for the money HJC are pretty good. It all comes down to fit with a helmet and if you have a HJC shaped head this model gives a good balance of fit, quality and excellent value for money. The paintwork is a good standard and this model has more of a premium feel to it which some of the cheaper HJCs don't seem to give. Everything is easy to use and the new visor opening is improved over the older model which makes it easier with gloves on. It doesn't have a sharp rating yet but does meet the new 2206 standard. Overall very happy with my purchase and flawless customer service from SBS as ever.
Comfortable, fits well, less windy noise than my Shoei, my glasses can be worn and still use the internal visor. Pinlock really works and is included.
Also bought the coms to go with it which is easy to fit.
So this is a true to fit helmet, which has a good internal visor and excellent viewing angle.
The top vent allows plenty of air flow and the visor mechanism allows air to flow over the brow however I do question whether the chin vent does anything.
The Sena Smart 21B is quick and easy to fit and operates very similarly to other Sena units I have used.
The elephant in the room is that the side modules for the Sena and also having the internal visor mechanism on the bottom allows air to flow into the helmet and create turbulence around the ears. I wear ear plugs all the time, but this is noticeable all pretty much at speeds. At motorway speeds it is unbearable after only a short amount of time.
Having searched the Internet, there are others with the same problem with this helmet and I now have taped over the holes and use a Windjammer II to cover the internal visor mechanism. I have contacted HJC where in their latest email suggested I contact the seller and even suggest that the seller could "find a solution".
The claim that it is "Engineered for a quieter, more aerodynamic ride through extensive wind-tunnel testing" in my case does not seem truthful.
Very comfy and light on my head.
Love the look and it got good reviews, so purchased along with the comms system which is Sena. The lid was a very tight fit, but to avoid the usual, uncomfortable brake in procedure of wearing it in the house all day, I purchased a size 4 junior football, put it inside the lid and pumped it up solid. J left it sat on the side for 2 days, deflated and removed the ball and it fits like a glove. The first ride out was over 3 hours snd not a hint of a hot spot. Great vision through the wide visor, which is very easy to remove and replace. the free pin lock is a nice touch. The drop down sun visor is very easy to use and has 3 adjustments to ensure it doesn't touch your nose. Being a good fit means it's not overly noisy ( I always use ear plugs) and it doesn't wobble about as much at high speeds as my previous lid. The comms system is easy to fit and the helmet has recesses for the speakers and mic which has been well thought out. The function is identical to a SENA 10r and I had zero problems connecting to my mates units. The sound and clarity is good. This is my 1st HJC lid and overall I am very impressed the quality and function. To be honest I cannot think about any negatives, hence a full 5 stars.
My second HJC helmet. Really happy with the fit, quality, colour, and price, but there are a couple of small niggles. The opening / closing action of the visor is jerky. The visor is very difficult to open from the locked closed position. The popper stud on the chin strap to stop the loose end flapping around is too high inside the cheekpad.
Usual excellent service from Sportsbikeshop.
Done a few long rides, comfortable a day long. Reasonably quiet and air vent on top of helmet is excellent, chin vents only average. Would recommend fitting the supplied pinlock as the visor mists up very easily. All in all a very good helmet
Had several shoei helmets and a couple of Hjc. This one is the most comfortable Of them all. Excellent service as always from SBS
The helmet is a good replacement for my ageing agv. I fits well and is quiet but the visor is VERY disappointing. The fully closed position seats well and fully open stays open but there are NO intermediate positions, you can feel the notches where it should stay but it just drops down.
Overall, not happy. It will be more of a problem during the winter/colder months.
Brilliant, even better than the rpha 70 sas the visor release mechanism is on the side and easier to use. As per the rpha 70, the rpha 71 is comfortable, light and worn all day without any neck ache the following day.
Got it to replace Shoei Neotec 2. Good snug fit, and so fits similar head shape. Seems to be similar quality. Visor comes further down so a plus. Seems slightly quieter but hard to let with earplugs. Feels like less buffeting too but again a bit subjective.
You should be fine with this helmet.
