If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
Poor ventilation
Excellent fit. Very warm with inner fitted. Plenty of back protection
While this jacket was quite expensive, it appears to be well made.It is not much heavier than my Oxford Mondial, is supple and was comfortable to ride in.
My reasoning for the purchase was safety. I work as a Paramedic on a fast response car and although I've seen 'lots' over the past 30 odd years, a recent motorcyclist fatality made me consider my own mortality. A colleague who rides, recently had 'an off' and bought himself a Helite airbag waistcoat. After trying both on, I just liked the idea of an all in one system and therefore bought the jacket. I did consider other makes but this Helite jacket just felt right for me. I've used it in hot weather and when all of the vents are open, it allows lots of air in. - (So much so, that I could feel the back protector lifting slightly from my back!) The tethering clip does not bother me and the jacket does not feel cumbersome in use. The fit and finish is good, the pockets have a flap and an zip and one hopes that it can provide increased protection should the worse happen.I've noticed a significant decrease in injuries sustained since the advent of airbags in cars, maybe they can help motorcyclists too?
Haven't had chance to ride in this jacket yet, but the fit and quality is superb.
It is quite heavy which is as I expected but nonetheless comfortable.
I'm hoping never to have to review the effectiveness of the airbags!
Great jacket, and great service from Sportsbikeshop.
Great service from SBS, delivered on time with no problems. Already have a Helite vest but find that wearing it and a jacket is heavy especially in hot weather. A friend recommended this jacket and I'm very happy.
Good quality with some nice touches better than the Alpinestars Andes it replaced. Good ventilation in hot weather and lining is easy to install. It is expensive but the quality and enhanced protection provided justifies the price.
Very happy with my purchase.
Comfortable, & does the job. Quality & fit are good, but see below.
The inner liner fastens up separately from the main jacket but isn't a real inconvenience.
A word about sizing ....
I followed the site's size guide & was surprised to find I required 5XL but went ahead & ordered anyway. I am 6'3" with a 47/48" chest but when the 5XL jacket arrived it was huge; far, far too big.
Sportsbikeshop were as good as gold & I eventually settled on a 3XL which is a good fit.
thrilled, comfy, stylish. Great visibility (better than i expected)
Had to send back as ordered L, needed XL, as 40 ish chest, now nice fit, with room to wear something under neath . Not been for a long ride yet, Jacket is a bit heavier then my old one,But much more protection with this and more peace of mind.
This jacket looks and feels great . Good fit but would recommend going a size bigger to get good fit . Great service from the Sportsbike shop as always .
Very comfortable, fits well (I am medium and M fit just right).
Less fussy than my previous jacket with the Helite turtle vest on top.
Tried to replace the shoulder/elbow protectors with L2, but they wouldn't fit without a lot of trimming.
Why not have L2 protectors from the factory, especially elbows that are well outside the airbag zone?
After a size change and swift service by yourselves I'm happy with this jacket. Can be quite heavy but not noticeable when u wear it. Feels similar to other textile jackets but of course its the airbag feature that makes it appealing. Something I never want to test but glad it's there
Stylish high quality jacket with built in air bag. Still manages to have multiple pockets large and small, useful vent zips, highish collar to suppress wind noise entering under helmet. Waterproof on the outside so inner layers do not get heavy if you are caught in rain.
Going on my first touring trip riding pillion and wanted extra protection. This jacket ticks all the boxes, hopefully I wont get to find out how good the airbag works. Armour in all the right places. Good fit, very comfortable and looks good too. Tried to find it cheaper and couldn't so overall I'm happy with the jacket and happy with Sportsbikeshop. Quick delivery and great customer service.
I was originally looking at the BMW Street Air but the price, at around £1,600 was way too high for me. In stead I went for this jacket after much research. The jacket is really heavy but not noticeable when you've got it on and to be honest you're not going to be carrying it around the shops so that's fine. It feels nice on as well. Very comfortable and with tons of pockets it's ideal for me.
I would also say the the level of service from Sportsbikeshop is excellent. They always seem happy to help.
This really is a solid and well made jacket. It has kept me dry in some heavy rain on my 40 minute commute, it's warm and has a huge number of pockets.
There is lots of adjustment to get a good fit, has a removable inner vest and air vents for when it is warm. The back protector is very solid.
As already mentioned in other reviews it is very heavy, but not really noticeable when wearing. The only improvement I can think of would the addition of some high-vis panels. I am 5' 10" and around 11 stone, the large fits well with some room for layers underneath.
A very well made and fully equipped jacket. There are pockets everywhere (with useful tags sewn on whether, they're waterproof or not) and it was very warm when I needed it to be and nice and breezy when the weather was hot. My first use was 2000 miles around Scotland and I always felt very secure in the jacket. But it didn't rain once (!!!) so I cannot comment on the actual ability of the jacket to cope with a downpour. They could maybe add a few more reflective panels to save covering the jacket in a hi-vis. It is a heavy jacket, but I didn't really notice it once on. Sizing is a bit tight, I had to go for a 2XL as a 17" neck, 42" chest, 38" waist kind of guy and it's still snug but I was able to wear a thin hoodie underneath when required.
Decided to get an air bag jacket but didn't want a waistcoat-style version as it already takes me long enough to get dressed up. As I am a 42in chest, I originally got a large jacket, but this was too tight. Easily exchanged for an XL which is perfect. This jacket feels heavy but is very comfortable to wear. Loads of pockets, mostly with zips, rubber covers and flaps to provide waterproof seals. After a few rides, you remember to clip the jacket onto the bike. I still sometimes forget to unclip when I dismount, but a little tug from the cord reminds you that you are still attached, enough to stop you in your tracks, but not enough to set off the air bag. An expensive jacket, but great quality. Might one day might just save me from serious injury.
