You'd be surprised how many riders wear a helmet that's too big for them. Here's how to tell if a lid really fits you...
Customers generally praise the Shark helmets for their comfort, fit, and effective design features, particularly highlighting the flip-front mechanism and sun visor utility. Several customers note the helmet’s superior visor visibility and fitting accommodations for glasses. Although some find the noise levels higher compared to other models, the build quality, aesthetics, and practical functionalities like the Pinlock insert earn positive mentions. A few customers highlight slight limitations in ventilation and sun visor depth, yet overall satisfaction with the helmet’s value and improvement over older models is evident.
I have now sent this helmet back 3 times for repair as the visor clips kept breaking off. This would leave you with no visor when out on a ride, forcing you to use the sun visor which isn’t great at night. On all 3 occasions the helmet was fixed and returned so I cannot fault SBS. The helmet however is not of good quality. I found it noisy and felt cheap. I have now had a refund. Worst of all, I bought 2 of these, 1 for my wife which is still intact (for now).
I tried on loads of conventional flip-up helmets but found the weight over the front was uncomfortable and just didn't work with my glasses.
The Shark is a fantastic helmet as the chin bar retracts completely out of the way and still allows me to ride with just the visor down.
Added to that, the guys in the Bristol store were brilliant, courteous and very knowledgeable.
I wish I had bought one of these years ago I love it!
The helmet is lightweight, and functional. Visors are good, comes with pin lock and tinted visor. Chin piece is easy to use, feels safe and secure when both open face and closed. Sound proof is more than sufficient.
Just right for me
I’m very pleased, as I had a few chores in local towns and villages, joined by some lovely Rutland roads. It was hot, so slow riding in the ‘Jet’ position was great. Then, when I hit the open road I could close the front fully. The one thing I learnt is that you probably need to decide on full-face early, as it’s a bit cumbersome over about 60mph, against the wind resistance. The tinted visor worked well, and it was really comfortable. I might need to get some bigger pads in places, but overall it feels good quality and I’m looking forward to an oversea tour in a few weeks to properly put it through its paces!
This helmet is brilliant, it has a wonderfully deep and wide field of vision, the best of any helmet I’ve owned. Very comfortable to wear, as comfortable as my Schubert C5. It’s superb as an open faced helmet in summer, the sun visor was a bit sticky at first but is now smooth. The only criticism I have is the noise at low speed there appears to be quite an ingress of wind noise on the left side of the helmet from the flip over mechanism. This noise is noticeable at 20 mph and builds up with speed. This is nowhere near as quiet as my old Shark Evo ES which is disappointing.
Sum up brilliant and frustrating
This is the only brand that fits me properly and is a big improvement on the previous flip. That said the ventilation is poor especially at the top of the helmet which is a major negative
Fits well, works well with sun visor down, main visor down and as a full face helmet.
A pretty comfortable helmet that’s not too noisy. Nice quality with well thought out comms provision (apart from screws holding the trim on !!!). Simple visit fit/removal but …. That sun visor. Way way too short in its drop making it very distracting. In many cases causing issues with checking your instruments or mirrors.
If you wear glasses then their provision for you is an odd set up that doesn’t really work either.
If you never ride in the sun and don’t wear glasses then nice helmet
Nice and comfortable seem to be good value for money not done a lot of miles yet my wife likes her's this is our 3rd shark helmet looking forward to a good ride out to give them a proper try
When trying on Schuberth C5 with the help of the staff, we found that the C5 left too much of a gap at the forehead and couldn't modify the helmet to fit due to Schuberth not making certain padding.
We then looked at the Shark OXO as it had a similar style, it fit perfectly without changing any padding.
I've struggled to get on with flip up helmets since ditching my very much out-of-date Schuberth. I wanted something simple, giving the benefit of open face, without looking (and feeling) like a trojan helmet. This totally nails it, without too much sacrifice in sound insulation. In fact, in open face mode (neat flip over mechanism), it's quiet and breezy - in a good way! All I could wish for in a helmet - excellent quality for a reasonable cost.
Very comfortable. Best sun visor i have ever used Not too dark or too light.
Okay, so these are my thoughts after about a 1000 miles of UK riding, Scotland mainly. This is my first flip front or flip over helmet.
For the last couple of years I've had to wear glasses when riding and getting the glasses on when wearing my Arai was a pain, so I had seen a couple of people with flip-overs and they had given great reviews. So for this season I took the plunge and brought an OXO and the Sena mesh intercom to go with it, to replace my last set up. Intercom is a nice 'clean-looking' fit and doesn't look bulky on the side of the lid.
My first thoughts are that the size is a true fit to my head circumference, and I can put the helmet on when wearing my glasses, so all good so-far.
I have just completed a week away with very warm weather, well warm for this time of year in the UK (up in the low 20c's), and it's nice to be able to open the front up, which a tended to do when in 30 MPH areas. So, unsurprisingly the ventilation is great when the front is open. When the helmet is closed there is a 'chin' vent which is easy to find and opens with a click. Unfortunately, the clicking noise is all it does, it doesn't seem to change the airflow in the helmet, but it does make the clicking noise! It's a totally different story with the vent on top of the helmet, still easy to find and operate, and when you do it's very different from the chin vent, straight away you can hear the air/wind noise level increase! Unfortunately, there is no appreciable increase in ventilation or cooling, but the noise does increase!
It's way more effective just to 'crack' the visor open slightly, which works great is less noisy than the top vent.
So, nice comfortable helmet, and if you want a breeze when the front is closed, crack the visor as the vents do very little, except increase the noise.... Would have been 5 stars if the vents did any ventilation...
The fuctions are good, size of visor very good, comfortable, but much much noisier than my Shoei Neotec 2. The visor seal is good, all the noise is from the sides. If you haven't ridden with a quiet helmet, maybe you wouldn't notice.
Think of this as a Shark 'ooh exe ooh' and nothing to do with the much loved stock cube - it just messes with your mind. I had one of the original Shark flip backs years ago and it was a great helmet. This has the same build quality, comfort and ease of operation but seems more 'slick'. Now to the Shark Sena mesh that I bought with it. Specially designed for Shark helmets, the instructions were a bit minimal, but I fall into the 'idiots who don't read instructions properly' bracket, and proceeded to put the Mic on the wrong side having failed to notice the groove for the mic on the right side. It gets worse as in my mind, I needed to re-site the control unit as I didn't think the mic cable was long enough - wrong again! I was rescued by Tom at Sportsbike HQ who took the time and trouble to contact Shark and get me a replacement adhesive pad. It sums up why Sportsbikeshop are rightly voted the best by so many people. The Sena kit works brilliantly - crystal clear comms in mesh and very comfortable in the helmet.
Comfortable and versatile, had a slight problem with first one delivered but spotsbike shop were brilliant just sent me a replacement can't fault them would definitely recommend.
Perfect fit (the circumference of my head is 61.5 cm)! Great functionality with the sun visor, flip-back system, and space for glasses. Good view and pin-lock insert! I like its versatile and advanced features with stylish design.
