You'd be surprised how many riders wear a helmet that's too big for them. Here's how to tell if a lid really fits you...
Customers generally praise the Shark helmets for their comfort, fit, and effective design features, particularly highlighting the flip-front mechanism and sun visor utility. Several customers note the helmet’s superior visor visibility and fitting accommodations for glasses. Although some find the noise levels higher compared to other models, the build quality, aesthetics, and practical functionalities like the Pinlock insert earn positive mentions. A few customers highlight slight limitations in ventilation and sun visor depth, yet overall satisfaction with the helmet’s value and improvement over older models is evident.
This helmet does everything its supposed too. Easy to fit, easy to operate the chin bar and visor with one hand the visor stays open on the first notch.
A massive upgrade on my previous lid.
Plus side - really easy operation, very good peripheral vision.
Minus side - noticable wind noise around ear when in full face position
I ride in town a lot, for which flip lids are much better, so I have had the Shark Evo for years.
The OXO is an improvement in most facets, but there are some annoying bugs.
The flip: the chin guard is easier to move to the closed position, without needing to raise the visor and locks into place when it does. However, one thousand miles later, I still find the opening mechanism fiddly, especially when wearing gloves.
The visor and sun visor are both improved quality. Some online reviews say that the sun visor does not lower enough, but I don’t find that. On the other hand, it is super annoying that the visor now only has three positions: fully closed, fully open, or open just a crack. I had not realised how much I rode with the visor in mid position. An unnecessary retrograde step.
The interior padding design is improved, but it seems to me a little noisier than the Evo.
Conclusion: overall an improvement but with a bit of care in the design could be better
I always use Shark helmets.. time for a new one so I treated myself to this version.. great fit, comfortable, pin lock, visor and sun visor.. I particularly like the open face setup - moves the visor out of the way, easy to switch to full face and it has all the cut outs to fit my new Dena for shark intercom -
Good fit, comfortable especially for those with specs
One drawback , fitting comms requires quite a bit of work, especially if not fitting the shark sena as recommended
I have now sent this helmet back 3 times for repair as the visor clips kept breaking off. This would leave you with no visor when out on a ride, forcing you to use the sun visor which isn’t great at night. On all 3 occasions the helmet was fixed and returned so I cannot fault SBS. The helmet however is not of good quality. I found it noisy and felt cheap. I have now had a refund. Worst of all, I bought 2 of these, 1 for my wife which is still intact (for now).
I tried on loads of conventional flip-up helmets but found the weight over the front was uncomfortable and just didn't work with my glasses.
The Shark is a fantastic helmet as the chin bar retracts completely out of the way and still allows me to ride with just the visor down.
Added to that, the guys in the Bristol store were brilliant, courteous and very knowledgeable.
I wish I had bought one of these years ago I love it!
The helmet is lightweight, and functional. Visors are good, comes with pin lock and tinted visor. Chin piece is easy to use, feels safe and secure when both open face and closed. Sound proof is more than sufficient.
Just right for me
I’m very pleased, as I had a few chores in local towns and villages, joined by some lovely Rutland roads. It was hot, so slow riding in the ‘Jet’ position was great. Then, when I hit the open road I could close the front fully. The one thing I learnt is that you probably need to decide on full-face early, as it’s a bit cumbersome over about 60mph, against the wind resistance. The tinted visor worked well, and it was really comfortable. I might need to get some bigger pads in places, but overall it feels good quality and I’m looking forward to an oversea tour in a few weeks to properly put it through its paces!
This helmet is brilliant, it has a wonderfully deep and wide field of vision, the best of any helmet I’ve owned. Very comfortable to wear, as comfortable as my Schubert C5. It’s superb as an open faced helmet in summer, the sun visor was a bit sticky at first but is now smooth. The only criticism I have is the noise at low speed there appears to be quite an ingress of wind noise on the left side of the helmet from the flip over mechanism. This noise is noticeable at 20 mph and builds up with speed. This is nowhere near as quiet as my old Shark Evo ES which is disappointing.
Sum up brilliant and frustrating
This is the only brand that fits me properly and is a big improvement on the previous flip. That said the ventilation is poor especially at the top of the helmet which is a major negative
Fits well, works well with sun visor down, main visor down and as a full face helmet.
A pretty comfortable helmet that’s not too noisy. Nice quality with well thought out comms provision (apart from screws holding the trim on !!!). Simple visit fit/removal but …. That sun visor. Way way too short in its drop making it very distracting. In many cases causing issues with checking your instruments or mirrors.
If you wear glasses then their provision for you is an odd set up that doesn’t really work either.
If you never ride in the sun and don’t wear glasses then nice helmet
Nice and comfortable seem to be good value for money not done a lot of miles yet my wife likes her's this is our 3rd shark helmet looking forward to a good ride out to give them a proper try
When trying on Schuberth C5 with the help of the staff, we found that the C5 left too much of a gap at the forehead and couldn't modify the helmet to fit due to Schuberth not making certain padding.
We then looked at the Shark OXO as it had a similar style, it fit perfectly without changing any padding.
I've struggled to get on with flip up helmets since ditching my very much out-of-date Schuberth. I wanted something simple, giving the benefit of open face, without looking (and feeling) like a trojan helmet. This totally nails it, without too much sacrifice in sound insulation. In fact, in open face mode (neat flip over mechanism), it's quiet and breezy - in a good way! All I could wish for in a helmet - excellent quality for a reasonable cost.
Very comfortable. Best sun visor i have ever used Not too dark or too light.
