Advice & Guides Gore-Tex not keeping out water? There's a different procedure to getting it sorted, and here's an explainer...

I wanted a set of textile trousers for touring that weren’t baggy when the thermal lining was removed. The fit of these is a straight leg with enough space to fit thermal leggings underneath (thermal lining not supplied). As a result they inspire confidence that the knee armour won’t move out of place in the event of an ‘off’. The material feels just the right thickness that it won’t be too hot when touring. I haven’t worn in a downpour yet so can’t comment on waterproofness, however all reviews and comments from friends who have a pair it seems it’s good.
What I also liked is the length - they were just right when stood, although I was a little concerned at first as the bottom of the leg rode up towards the top of my boots when sitting on the bike ( I have low Daytona touring boots) that rain may find its way in. However there are a few inches of excess material folded under at the bottom of the leg which you can pull down to get good coverage over your ankle area in the event of heavy rain.
The only gripe I had is the fit around the lower back. The trousers gaped and felt like they were coming down when sitting on the bike. This was sorted by zipping it onto the jacket (I have a Kalix 2.0) however if you are like me and wear a mid layer jacket which sits over the waist of the trousers you can’t do it comfortably. As a result I invested in a pair of Rukka braces which immediately sorted the problem - that was an extra £40. However as SBS had these trousers on sale when I bought them it still meant I’d paid out less money than if I’d paid full price for the trousers.
Overall I like the trousers and am looking forward to a few years touring in them.
Love the design, quality of finish and robustness of the fabric however they don’t come without problems in fit. Before you contemplate buying these it’s imperative that you try for size.
I like how the legs and hem create a slim fit so not baggy when riding but the seat to waist height could be more generous as they ride low on waist when sitting on bike compared to other manufacturers on the market.
The inside leg measurement could do with reviewing as well as there’s a 6.5cm difference between short and regular inside leg measurement.
Finally, although the knee armour is adjustable in height, with the short leg at maximum height whilst walking the armour sits below knee thus digging into the shin whilst walking.
For the price point of these trousers I think there’s room for design improvements and therefore wouldn’t buy again.
Picked up in Store, staff were helpful. Good fitting trousers, well made and a great warranty.
Light weight. Black to go with my v3 Kalix Gore-tex Jacket. Not used in pouring rain yet but it just rolls off in the uk showers. Great high neck protector once you get used to it. Brilliant in the heat too (upto 30 deg) with the shoulder, side and back vents on the jacket and side vent on the trousers. If your like me going from my basic (first set to a decent set) then I can highly recommend Rukka kit.
