Advice & Guides If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...

I normally wear jeans but I have been looking for some cold weather cheap trousers. I have tried at least six different brands and none fit properly, all suffering from a huge baggy backside. These however fit like a normal pair of M&S jeans. You do need to go up one size on the waist measurement though. The leg length is just about right for me on the bike, I'd normally wear 32 or 34 inch inseam. The fabric is soft, flexible and comfortable. There are elasticated velcro waist adjusters and belt loops, and a normal zip fly. At the back there is a concertina stretch panel which is how they've avoided the dreaded baggy bottom. There is no hip armour supplied and the pockets are too small to take D30 Ghost. The solution is to take the supplied knee armour, which is very soft, and put it in the hip pockets and then install your own armour in the knees. The knee pockets are adjustable with velcro and accessable from outside via a zip. One final bonus point: the graphic shown in the photograph around the knees was missing and I'm very pleased about that.
I bought these because I found touring trousers always seemed bulky and I wanted something different to denim jeans. The style is like a pair of jeans but they're a soft shell material with a lining that's soft and very comfortable. After the first ride I can confirm they are comfortable with enough room in the seat area, however it's worth noting that I'm 34" waist, but found that XL was the right size. Large was a bit of a tight fit me.
The knee pads are very unobtrusive and are conveniently fitted via zips on the outside of the knees. There is provision for hip protectors but these are not included. Pockets are similar to those on denim jeans.
I tried them against more expensive competition and preferred them. I have no idea how they will stand the text of time but the finish looks good and they seem well made.
Usual good service from Sportsbikeshop staff who remained amazingly patient with me, as I tried on a few options at the end of a busy Saturday.
