If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
This is a triple-layer laminated gore-tex pro jacket with lots of pockets, plenty of ventilation, side adjustability, a detachable storm collar and perforated goatskin leather at the shoulders and elbows. It comes with an inner down jacket which is very comfortable, nicely fitting and warm (although mine has managed to poke a small bit of feather through the material). You'll find yourself wearing this off the bike as it works well as a standalone jacket.
Cuffs are snug over winter gloves.
The integrated support belt can be zipped away, or wrapped around your waist and attached to itself with velcro to give the jacket a better fit and spread the weight.
There is D30 armour in the back, shoulders and elbows, and strange square shaped pockets in the chest that I suppose you might find armour to fit in.
I can't speak to the Kodiak's waterproof qualities as yet, but fit and comfort are excellent - once you get the right size. I'm 6'1, 70kg, 32 waist, 34 inseam. According to Klim's size guide I should be a medium, however this was laugably tight. The large was much better (same for the trousers with a long leg). With Klim being an American brand I was not expecting this.
The Klim Kodiak is an obvious challenger to the Rukka Nivala if you're in the market for a quality motorcycle jacket. I tried both, and while the Nivala had the softer, stretchier material, chest protection and storm cuffs, for me, the Klim had a better shape and fit overall.
Is it worth the money? It was slightly more expensive than the Nivala Jacket, but if you're buying the suit, the trousers work out cheaper. If you ride in all weathers and put the miles in you may find it is a good investment. This, my man maths tells me, makes it a good idea.
Absolutely brilliant piece of kit as it should be with the price. Never leaked once in 15k although I have cleaned and resealed twice. Very comfortable to wear for full day / weeks your and vents work well in summer.
Only gripe I have is the neck velcro fastening , absolutely rubbish and never stays fastened. Had a 60 mph crash and jacket survived with a few scuffs and still waterproof tight. Used -10 with the down jacket in and kept me comfortable no issues.
Ok - first things first - be careful when choosing your size for this jacket as the Kodiak model is entirely cut differently to the other Klim range. I needed an XL but am an L in all the other Klim jackets so be warned.
In terms of features you get pretty much everything you could want in a jacket and exactly what you expect given the eye-watering price tag. I have tested it's waterproofing in winter and it passed without issue. Thermal issue is covered well also with the puffa jacket which you may well find yourself using it off the bike also for Tesco runs with the family for extra overlander kudos. Protection is superb with D30 and decent back protector. I chose the grey as it looks cool although accept that I will need to wash it more often. I sold my Rukka Nivala 2 to buy this jacket and am happy as the Kodiak has a better look and feel as well being 100% waterproof which I couldn't say about the Nivala. Overall, it's a stonking bit of kit and will serve me well for many years which is just as well as it will take a few years to accept that I paid more for this than I did for my first motorbike 35 years ago!
Ist class service from sportsbikeshop as usual.
This was a replacement for me 3 year old Kodiak which had a few minor issues. Klim immediately offered a replacement for the kodiak 2 jacket at no extra cost. I would not buy high end motor bike gear from anyone else but Klim which is in my opinion the best gear out there and also 1st class aftersales service and care.
The Kodiak is excellent quality, a good fit, waterproof and sturdy as you would expect/hope for the money.. However for this money I do think they could have included chest armour and a full length back protector.
The neck scarf thing is poorly designed though. It's virtually impossible to do get it in place whilst stationary let alone on the move. The old Hein Gericke design was perfect.
This jacket is a nice jacket and comes with great inner lining not yet tried in rain or really high temperature but you need to get the size up as they do appear a small cut
An excellent jacket, fits perfect with a high quality feel. My first Klim jacket very pleased so far.
This is my second Klim Kodiak, I thought the first version was very good but the current new version is even better with more flex under the arms an waist adjustment. The change to the cuffs is better to keep out the rain and the zip in storm collar adds to the jackets all weather protection. Finally the inclusion of a goose down mid layer that can also be used as a jacket is a great addition and makes the Kodiak jacket suitable for cold weather riding. Currently on tour in Portugal and I can attest to its waterproof qualities. First rate …
Great jacket really get what you pay for
and fantastic service from
Sportsbikeshop who ordered me 9 !!
Jackets to try on in their Bristol branch

Had always had RST jackets before but wanted a proper Goretex suit for touring. The fun of stopping and putting on waterproofs in the rain is wearing thin!
Initially it was this suit or the Rukka one, but after trying them both on I decided on the Klim one as it just felt better quality and was a better fit.
I bought this to replace my Klim Badland Pro jacket.
The Kodiak is lighter and shorter, meaning I don't sit on the back each time I get on the bike, it's noticeably lighter as well, each time I pick it up it reminds me of this.
I've just had a trip to Scotland and there were some -1 deg starts and I didn't get cold.
Very impressed.
Had previously owned a Klim Latitude, which never fitted properly; to be honest I should move returned it but didn't….., you live and learn! Anyway after enduring an ill fitting Medium Latitude for several years, I opted for a Large Kodiak replacement. I ordered a Large, this but again was too tight around the waist. I'm 5'10" (178 cm) and 83 kg (13.5 stone) and usually take a medium in pretty much everything. Sportsbikeshop replaced it with an XL ( very helpful and the return process very easy), which is perfect. Notwithstanding the strange sizing, the jacket oozes quality. Only used for hot days riding so far, and the vents are exceptional. I have no doubt it will be watertight as the Latitude was - this jacket is on another level. Yes it's an expensive jacket, but wholly worth the money in my opinion. Buy cheap, buy twice is very true with motorcycle kit, or in my case buy at least 4 times! Not any more! Can't recommend Klim kit enough.
The Kodiak jacket is the ultimate travel companion for long rides, rain or shine, dusk till dawn. It features a 3-layer waterproof Gore-Tex Pro construction with integrated stretch and reinforcement zones. The jacket features 8 adjustable zip vents, removable storm collar and breathable mesh liner for all weather comfort. Also included is a goose down mid layer which is lightweight, sleek and ready to add warmth to any ride. It can be folded up for easy storage when not in use.
