If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
All the safety and with goretex pro totally waterproof but wasn t expecting it to feel so comfortable. The internal waistband, which I expected to remove, makes all the difference. Love it. Always great service with sportsbikeshop
Update on review
I ve now owned the jacket for a few months and I ve done 10 days in Scotland and a week in the Lake District and North Yorkshire so thought I d update the review I posted after first getting the jacket.
As someone who does 3 or 4 week long trips a year in this country and abroad I wanted something practical and hard wearing that I could wear in all weather conditions and temperatures ranging from 6 - 22 degrees C (anything above 22 degrees I wear a much lighter summer jacket).
As most people do before spending a large sum of hard earned cash on a product I looked at many reviews on YouTube etc and most of them where fair and honest, highlighting the fantastic Goretex pro waterproofing, which I can now confirm is all it s cracked up to be. After riding through Scotland in torrential rain for 6 hours I was over the moon to stay completely dry which in turn, with layering, kept me comfortably warm and when riding on slippery roads there s a lot of confidence that comes from AAA abrasion and large level 2 armour which stays in place and never moves although I m pleased to say this was never used. I have however in the distant past slid down the tarmac at high speed so I know how important that is.
Yes the jacket feels heavier than most but it s not something I d use for climbing mountains but for sitting on my bike with the very comfortable kidney belt wrapped around my waist it s never noticeable. I have spent plenty of time riding off road in the past and it s definitely not something I d wear for that but for road touring it s perfect.
As most reviews rightly focus on, it s expensive but it s in the ballpark for other manufacturers premium jackets and in my opinion better.
Don t be put off by reviews that say it s impractical, especially by the Bloke in the Hat who s arrogant enough to pronounce the brand wrong (it s pronounced climb) and who seems to think it s his job to treat you like an overbearing Mum who always knows what s best for you (rant over).
If you can afford it and are looking for a premium jacket that can keep you cool in the summer and with layering warm in the winter, check this one out too. You can always send it back with Sportsbikeshop. And no I don t work for Klim. Hope this helps
Having to compromise was obviously not in the design brief set by the Klim team. The jacket is exceptionally well made using some of the best materials and armour produced. The detail and overall construction is in a different league to my old gear, yes it's cost three times as much but if this lasts me for another five years delivering 100% protection from all weathers and road detritus then to me it's worth the money. Sizing is also real world, 2XL gives room for a base layer, down jacket and breathing space for my 52inch chest.
You really do get what you pay for.
I was always a big alpinestars fan when it comes to kit, but this klim gear is amazing. Top price but top quality which hopefully will last a long long time
First things first yes this is expensive at £1600 full price I had to consider it for a while. When it arrived I could immediately see and feel the quality of the jacket and can tell it will provide the required protection I was looking for.
I bought a large, I'm 6'1" and 15st and it fits me perfectly.
This is exactly what I was looking for with a lower collar, plenty of pockets and vents and the kidney belt helps alleviate the weight of the jacket. It also brings the waist in slightly when fastened.
Recently bought a alpinestars jacket but the quality and protection is hopeless so I bought this Klim, expensive but actually waterproof and they actually make real world sizes, so there's room to wear clothes underneath. Being American designed a bit baggy around the middle. Feels safe like leathers do.
