Adventure helmets are usually low-budget or big-money - but the LS2 Explorer is something that sits in the middle. Our travelling reviewer put it to the test on a Portuguese adventure
This lid really looks the buisness.
The drop down sun visor isn't tinted enough, and is virtually useless on a sunny day. I found the strap hard to use, but im sure i will get used to it. Its very well ventilated, but best to have the vents closed on a cold day,
Size for me was large, and it fits really well. Vision is great when doing the life saver look.
I may be a bit harsh giving it a 3,probably a 3.5
I think it looks really well, and like the bright orange colour. Definitely an ear plug helmet, but i all wear them anyhow. So all in all, happy enough, and worth the money.
Wanted to try a helmet with a peak. Saw this was the new safety regs. Feels like a quality item. Really comfortable, better than the helmet I ended up with BUT the visor comes up a long way so it almost touches the peak and it was quite tricky to find and close with a gloved hand. Visor then clicks shut and is quite tricky to open with a gloved hand. Final nail in the coffin was that the visor only stays in the locked open or shut position and wobbled around when part open.
Build quality 5 *
Visor 1 *
I bought my LS2 Explorer in 7/23 and loved it straight out of the box. Very well spec'd and quality made. A little tight, especially at the cheeks, but this eased out and the helmet became very comfortable. I have had a problem, though. The sun visor lever became stiff and notchy and broke off in 9/23. Sportsbikeshop had it repaired, but it took 3 weeks to do so, which was inconvenient. Against the quality of the helmet generally, that surprised.
Had a much lower spec ls 2 helmet but decided to try the LS 2 explorer what a revelation weight comfort ease of use all are excellent . I would definitely buy this product again . Surprised how quick it arrived too bought one day arrived next what more could you ask for .
I had been looking for an adventure style helmet for some time and had tried various makes on , some of which were over double the price of the LS2 Explorer and although they were obviously good helmets they didn't fit as nicely as the LS2 or in my opinion look as good .
The helmet has excellent noise reduction at every speed I went and you can actually hear the intercom clearly . It has so many air vents that in the summer it's never going to be too hot inside .
The internal visor is very easy to operate and in a good position under helmet rim so easy to open and close . The build quality is second to none and is quite a lightweight helmet . The peak is adjustable and looks great too. The field of vision is superb with quite a wide visor . The chin strap is a metal fastening so won't wear as quick as some other types . All in all a very high quality helmet that is well worth the money .
Really comfy helmet, sun visor does what it should and the peak doesn't get caught up in the wind like some do. Had a few comments already about how smart it looks. Smh5 intercom fits spot on and very little wind noise during phone calls. However the helmet is pretty noisy for the wind, even with the visit shut its still pretty loud, not an issue for me but some don't like wind noise. I get a small area at the front of the visit that I can't seem to stop fogging over on the outside other than that stays pretty clear even in a down pour(I have ceramic coated the visor) the pin lock does its job on the inside perfectly though. Very pleased with it overall, if it wasn't as noisy I'd give it 5 stars
A great looking helmet, and a quality product the company are now producing, which is comfy and we'll ventilated. Slightly tight on the cheeks but hopefully this will ease as it beds in with wear. Comms fit in well that's are indents for the speakers and easy to fit due to the padding system. All in all very happy.
Good quality helmet from LS2. The only thing I'm not happy about is peak design. Even at fairly low speeds 40mph peak makes some squeaky noises that can be really annoying.
The other thing I was surprised about is lack of any information how to remove peak to get to the visor mechanism (no manual or any how to's on Internet). There is absolutely no visible parts that can be undone. When contacted LS2 didn't even bother to answer. I got some help from Sportsbikeshop and info that LS2 is still working on manual for the helmet.
I really don't understand how company can release a product without instruction manual. Is it even legal?
This helmet is worth more than it's actual price, the design is excellent, nothing has been left out, the fit is perfect the amount of vents keep you nice and cool and you see much more because of the wider view of the helmet, the accessories it came with, the helmet cover, carrying bag, pin lock are excellent, well worth buying.
