Caberg Tourmax Marathon - Black / White / Anthracite
Customer Product Reviews
Just the job
Got this after my pal recommended it ahead of Arai and others. Really pleased with it. Good fit, easy to get on and off and with no misting. If I should fall on my head it has as much protection as one can get in all areas so what's not to like. Added to that it looks very chic with the black, white and anthracite scheme - almost Star Wars trooper like! Highly recommend.
Great modular dual visor helmet.
I've been really impressed with this lid. Totally functional and at a very competitive price. The pinlock system (included) along with the visors ability to seal properly or stay open only by a few mm is an absolute game changer for me, especially in colder weather. My only minor gripe would be that it is a little noisy at speed and the chin strap does seem to push a bit tight against your throat . These minor issues are by no means a deal breaker for me. Would buy again.
When it first came in the box, I picked the box up and thought they had forgot to pack the helmet. It was quite light. Now I don't have anything to compare it to but I still was quite surprised. The helmet not only looks good but I find offers great support and has good features. I bought a medium and its an accurate fit, it is secure, I can see why people would say its tight but the padding inside will adjust to your head in time so its just newness tightness in my opinion. Easier to put on and off with the face open but would happily recommend this helmet.
Good but with limitations
I bought this for proper off road riding. Green laning, long distance trials, & light Enduro etc. Mainly in the winter. The functionality of the helmet is great the build quality is good. If I had a criticism is that it steams up to easily as the visor and chin guard is too close to your face. Its not a problem when your on the road at higher speeds so i would say its definitely more bias to road riding rather than off road riding.
Looks really cool and the fluo yellow bits contribute to extra visibility. The helmet itself is very versatile, has a great safety rating and, although noticeably heavier than my old VRR2, is much more comfortable to wear. Gap between the chin guard is absolutely fine for me. The peak can be noisy above 40mph but not really an issue as I'm lucky if I reach that speed when commuting through town. It can be removed anyway if need be (e.g. For longer rides on the motorway maybe). Pin lock insert is also provided, which is very nice. The strap is a bit closer to my Adam's apple but I can live with that. Overall, this is a very impressive helmet. And service from Sportsbikeshop is 2nd to none. Ordered late on a Saturday and delivered the following Monday! Well impressed. The helmet was a bit cheaper on another site on the Internet but decided to play it safe and use Sportsbikeshop and glad I did after all. I ordered the headset from a different place at the same time and still waiting for it, 2 weeks later... So thumbs up to SBS
Innovation & value
Purchased the Caberg tourmax to use when touring, I didn't go for the most expensive flip-up on the market, but I did a little bit of research and most people had been singing the praises of the Caberg tourmax, and I must say I can see why so many people are pleased with it, the thought that has gone into many of the design features are better than some helmets costing double the money, from the quick release mechanism on the chin strap, the integrated sun visor, the way they have been engineered into the helmet is first class. And the most fundamental thing is the five star rating safety wise, there are downsides, it is heavier than a full-face helmet and noisier, which really is an obvious downside, but all-in-all I think you would go a long way to purchase a better helmet for the money.
Generally good...but quite heavy
Was attracted to this due to this being a modular helmet and also having a peak to help keep any low sun obscuring my vision - this peak does a good job of doing just that. Slightly disappointed with the sizing. Small is too small and Medium is ever so slightly too big - I'm a 57-58cm head size. This is only really a problem at high speeds (+70mph) when lifesaver checks cause the helmet to shift slightly. It's much bigger and heavier, and catches the wind much more than my previous helmet (HJC IS-17) which takes some getting used to. But it is much, much quieter than the HJC which is a real plus - I get no noise or turbulence from the peak. Happy to wear this every day for my commute to work.
Tried pretty much every other brand and none fit me quite like the Tourmax / Duke. 5 Sharp rated, great value for money. Had the Duke previously and loved it, the Tourmax is the same helmet, just with the peak (which is removable). Super fast delivery and packaging is bullet proof. 100% recommend.
Impressed so far!!
Worn this a couple of times now on full day rides with mixed riding (both country lanes and motorway)and so far I am pretty impressed. Comfy and quiet. Not used in the rain yet so cannot judge on wet weather use. Not crashed either so I guess I will have to trust the 5 star rating that aspect!!
Perfect and comfortable fit as per size chart. I wear glasses, but helmet does not interfere with them at all. It is also my first experience of the Pinlock system, which seems to work a treat. The flip up front mechanism seems to be robust and well designed, also very handy when paying for fuel and smiling at the chicks.!!!
The helmet definitely exceeded my expectations. It feels very well made and is very comfy and plenty of room for ear pieces. Noise I find acceptable as I was previously using an MX helmet. The only thing is the peek vibrates a lot at speed but wouldn't stop me buying another. And as always superb service from SBS.
I've worn Arai or Shoei for the last 22 years, but thought I'd give another brand a try as a stand-by helmet...and just because I fancied trying a flip-front lid without shelling out for a top brand name. The Caberg feels solid, not like budget lids of old, and does exactly what it says on the tin!!! The chin space is a little limited if you have a prominent lower jaw, but it's not uncomfortable for me...best to check this out and be sure before you remove the visor decals though... The sun-shade could be spring loaded but works fine just as it is, the peak causes no buffeting that I can detect at any double digit speeds, and the Pinlock works perfectly to prevent misting on these cold mornings. Overall it's a Good lid, but not a Great one, but at this price that really is good enough for me!!!
Sharp 5 rated, great value
A well made fully functional helmet. Quieter than my previous Caberg helmet IS Max. Opening and closing the chin bar is easy to operate, chin bar locks positively in both positions. I fitted my Cardo ear pieces easily beneath the lining and all went back into position securely. This is my third Caberg helmet I have always found them to be excellent value. I did notice some buffeting caused by the peak at 60MP+, however this was remedied by adjusting the bikes screen.
