Shoei GT Air 2 - Light Silver
Customer Product Reviews
Nice helmet shame about the fastening
With a double D ring fastener this would be 5 stars. Comfortable, quiet and handsome. Chin ventilation does nothing on my bike R1200GS with a Wunderlich screen as it is out of the airflow. Head ventilation works well.
Recently I've experimented with a couple of mid range helmets, after years of buying high end AGV, Arai and Shoei lids, both leaked along the top edge of the visor - experiment over! Back to high end lids! Yes they're more expensive but boy do you notice the difference. This lid is super light, super quiet, super comfy, well ventilated and 5 star crash rated. What more do you need? You want more?....read on! It also looks amazing. The matt finish is sublime making it a really distinctive helmet. If you've never had a lid with integral sun visor I suggest you try one, this lid has one and it drops down all the way, not half or three quarters of the way like some, so the bottom edge doesn't interfere with your vision. No more packing multiple visors when you go away, nice and simple! Speaking of the visor, it's also pin lock ready and the pin lock insert is included in the box. Another box ticked. The chin strap is a metal ratchet system so super easy use, even with gloves on. Again, nice and simple. It's very Weill ventilated too, with only two main vents, mouth/visor and top of head, both are easy to find and open with gloves on, not at all fiddly. I've had lids with up to 5 vents before and it's a pain when you're riding to open/close them all. Again nice and simple. It's got built in areas for Shoei's intercoms and cuts outs for speakers. All the padding is removable and washable as per norm these days. Honestly I can't think of an area where this helmet falls down. It's so well made and designed - always with the rider in mind. It's simply brilliant. Buy one. You won't regret it.
Comfy with great air flow
The helmet is comfy with decent inner padding and feels great quality in terms of air flow options and visor ratchet. I like that the visor can be set to open slightly and feels secure. Seatbelt Chin strap works well once set to your preference. Feels light and comfortable.
Good quality excellent fit.
Changed from a helmet that was hurting my ears and was unbearable on long runs. Had to go to large but fit is good , a little noisier than expected but may be because I removed padding in speaker recess to fit speaker. Ticked the boxes for internal dark visor and decent sized recess for speaker. Only gripe is the small rubber cover than covers the male part of the seat belt style buckle keeps coming off. Overall a good quality helmet with good ventilation , quality visors and glasses are easy to use.
Light comfy helmet but
Felt very light, great fit. Love the sun visor, you can just see the wing mirrors below it, which is good. My glasses clear the sun visor easily. Not so sure about the ratchet chin strap, Hopefully I will get used to it. When the chin vent is open, its pretty noisy, even at slow speeds. The pin-lock fouls the top visor seal when going up and down, the supplied silicon oil helped.(I have much experience with pin locks so it is fitted correctly.) The top vent has a small hole in it, so it can't be closed completely,Cold day, always have draft going thru, not good. What about a day of rain riding? Would I have bought it if I had known all this, probably not on balance.
Not noticeably better than the GT air
I'd had my yellow GT air for several years and needed to replace it but it seems it been updated by the GT air II. Quite a bit more expensive than the previous model. I'd say it's good but I've not been blown away by any noticeable improvement. Usual comfort and fit I've come to expect from Shoei
Very light, very comfortable
So far I've found this helmet extremely light, and very comfortable to wear. The top vent allows in a decent amount of air, cooling the top of my head, and the 'partially open' setting on the visor is great for keeping your face cool, without letting in the bugs. Just fitted the integrated Bluetooth system which is definitely the best one I've owned to date. Also, while it's not the most important thing for me in a helmet, loving how it looks too!
A Fantastic Upgrade
I previously had the AGV compact ST and decided it was time for a new helmet. You definetely get what you pay for as the Shoei is night and day with comfort and quality. The pinlock works great as always and the ventilation really works well.
Great with the SRL2
Impressed with the GT Air 2; my partner has had one (the Affair TC-3) for a little under a year, and is pleased with it, so I decided to go for the same. Helmet fits nicely (I had to go up a size, as the large was a bit too small, even for a new helmet!) and feels a good solid quality, as you'd expect from Shoei I've yet to have a need for it, but my partner found the sun visor a convenient addition, if a little fiddly with gloves on initially. For riders with glasses, there are two small 'notches' where the lining meets inside, that will accommodate some glasses, but don't grant a huge space, so you may find this difficult depending on the style of glasses you wear.
