Shad TR30 Waterproof Panniers - 60 Litre

I chose these because I didn't want the usual hard luggage look on my 1300GS, and having been in groups where a tip over broke the hard luggage (Bent it so it wouldn’t close or come off the bike) I was convinced the soft luggage was the direction to take.

These couple onto the Shad 3DP rackmounts which looks really neat when the luggage isn't on the bike, so none of that scaffolding look.
As for the bags themselves they are completely water proof and well structured, they look good and I’ve had quite a few compliments. They have a few Molle attachment points which I’ve used on the back for a water bottle holder (Also Shad) and a dry bag (Also Shad).

The other benefit of the soft luggage is there is some give when stuffing them full so slightly odd shaped camping gear can be stuffed in.
The downsides… the way they lock with a metal loop over the top can be slightly fiddly, when you try and turn the key is sometimes wont move, this is because one of the two loops wont have been pushed in far enough so you need to just give it a gentle push (Its not tight it just doesn’t stay where it should) and over time Ive developed a knack to it.

The second downside is those loops are on straps that are a bit short which robs you of some space from the top of the bag, however you can buy extenders from the Shad website which gives you extra space for when the bags are full and if they are not full just detach them.
Taking them on and off the bike I found simple enough, I leave them on the bike all the time and having done 3000 miles mostly road miles some off road they still look new.

If it wasn't for the slightly fiddly locking mechanism and the short strap I would have awarded 5 stars. I would buy them again,

Well designed and quality soft panniers at a decent price. I know they're not as secure as a hard pannier but I won't be leaving the bike unattended. Neat locking system at least secures them to the frames and they are waterproof. Excellent service from SB shop as usual, well pleased.
