Gore-Tex not keeping out water? There's a different procedure to getting it sorted, and here's an explainer...
Customers overwhelmingly appreciate the Kalix jacket for its robust waterproof capabilities and comfort. Many highlighted that it handles heavy rain without becoming waterlogged, keeping users dry and comfortable. The jacket’s lightweight nature and lack of an inner liner allow for flexible layering, making it suitable for multiple seasons. Customers also like the fit, armor positioning, and understated logos. Several noted it could benefit from larger zip pulls and a more comfortable collar. Overall, the jacket is seen as a worthwhile investment.
I bought this after my RST jacket leaked during a very wet tour of Wales, when a friend wearing Rukka kit stayed bone dry.
Obviously with Rukka you are paying top price, even though I managed to get this one discounted in an SBS sale. I also bought the back protector, which disappointingly isn't included.
Having said that, I have since toured France and Spain and I have stayed completely dry in heavy rain, so the jacket is doing its job well. I also find it fits me nicely and it is comfortable to wear for many hours at a time. Budget for something thermal to go underneath in winter, as there's no thermal lining, also don't expect to wear it in temperatures above 25 degrees because you'll need something that flows more air when it gets reallt hot.
The construction is top class, it feels like it will last a long time. I did have to send it back for repair when a zip pull fell apart, but they repaired it for me under warranty within about 2 weeks.
So overall, a very good purchase but it loses a point for needing repair.
Living I. The UK you never know what the weather will be and so this jacket is the ultimate all rounder and the best jacket I have ever owned.
Bought my Kalix in Dec 2021. It has been used all over Europe and the UK in all kinds of weather, including torrential rain in Germany last summer and the heat of southern France in '22 and it's been great. Yes, you do need to get decent warm layers to go under it if you use it in colder weather but let's face it, most of us ride a lot more in summer. Then this spring, riding home in a medium downpour, horror of horrors it leaked on the left arm and the stomach! I got onto SportsBikeShop (who are just great) and they sent me a label to return the jacket. From them it went back to Rukka and then a few weeks later SportsBikeShop got back to me and Rukka had agreed it had failed and would I like a refund or an exact replacement. Amazing. So I have a brand new Kalix 2 ready for my annual jaunt to Europe in four weeks time. Top marks for Rukka and top marks for SportsBikeShop. Recommended.
This jacket has a really good quality look and feel to it. The zips feel strong, the fit is true to size, comfortable to wear. The warranty extension to 6years is a bonus too.
Great service from the Sportsbike Shop.
Best jackets on the market. Comfortable, great fit and ultimate protection.
I was in the process of buying a new jacket which I’d already had in my basket waiting for payday. When SBS put up their Rukka sale I jumped on it and bought full new kit switching to a completely new brand. Very comfortable and definitely feels like I have bought a premium jacket.
Very comfortable, nice soft neoprene neck line, plenty of vents.
I bought this suit for an upcoming trip to Spain & Portugal I normally wear leathers but after getting soaked the last time I was out there I thought I’d best buy a new all weather suit and these came up at a big discount!! I was a bit worried about it being to hot for me but after going out in it over last weekend, i found the vents in this jacket gave me more than enough air flow to the point I was quite cold riding in 18c temps and with them closed it was a perfect place to be with the added bonus of if it does rain I’m 100% waterproof for anything unexpected.
I absolutely love this jacket. It can be warm or cool, depending on how I configure the zips/airflow. I thought the neck collar came a little high at first, but now im completely forgotten about it and the jacket is very comfortable.
Great purchase!
Went a size larger to accommodate the D30 back armour I bought at the same time. Good fit, windproof and warm enough for the recent Spring weather. Lighter weight than my 4 season textile suit.
Great jacket and at the discount price even better. Excellent fit. Back armour not included but at an extra £89, I can live without it for now. With a 6 yr warranty what's not to like. 46 chest went for the 56 so I can fit layer underneath. I bought a down featherlight jacket elsewhere and that works well.
Very comfortable and windproof but no chance yet to test waterproofing, that's what I need.
Practical cuffs allow gloves over or under, depending on preferences and comfy collar, although higher than many, does not interfere with helmet. Arrived with security tag still fitted which took a while to remove!
After just under 2 years with another brand of 3 liner jacket that had to be returned I was looking for something less fussy but that had some ventilation for the summer. Having recently returned from a trip to Spain where I noticed a lot of riders wearing Rukka when departing the ferry I decided to check them out. The Kalix is I suppose in a way an entry level Rukka but still a top quality jacket with the appealing 5 year warranty. And 40+ positive reviews. For me though as an all rounder I is perfect. No liners to faff about with when wet and I can wear
my down jacket underneath when cold. I was initially a little worried about the slightly higher collar that Rukka seems to favour but I don't notice it when riding and it is possible to fold the neoprene trim down if needed. Sizing was good 44" chest and bought XL. I also like the length on this jacket its long enough at the back but I'm not sat on it and doesn't bunch up at the front. Worn on a few warm days so far and vents work well and also like the fact bare arms underneath don't sweat and stick to a nylon lining. Nice wide cuffs that close up tight around summer gloves and will be fine with bulkier winter ones. I like it. Would recommend without hesitation. Great service as always from SBS regarding my refund of previous jacket and delivery on this order.
.
I bought this to use in the warmer months being a lighter jacket than my nivala which can be a bit bulky in the summer I love the flexibility in it and the comfort while wearing my only criticism at this price point why no back protector I'll just swap out my nivala one. Good fit is spot on but try a size smaller than I've gone down a size compared to the nivala. Expensive but I do feel its made well and will last and the fact that a 6 year warranty is included says a lot .sportsbikshop is the best so helpful one stop shop
After watching Tony and his review I decideded to take the plunge and buy the Rukks Kalix jacket
From the start the jacket felt so comfortable and easy to use. The vents work really well and good air flow throughout the jacket. Pockets are easily accessible and the chest armour pockets work well in holding my mobile phone and wallet. The Gore tex is excellent in wet weather. The jacket is warm and I purchased the Rukka down jacket which fits neatly under the kalix. This jacket is worth the money and the quality is top notch. I'll be wearing this jacket on my next tour of Scotland.
Soortsbike gave excellent advice on fitting and product. I'm a 44 chest and got the XL which fits perfectly either with just a t shirt and base layers or a sweatshirt and down jacket. There's adjustment on the sides and a zip both work very well. This jacket is definitely worth the investment and with a 5 year warranty you can't go wrong. Good quality Road and Touring jacket.
Had wanted to try a Rukka jacket for a long time . Watched the videos by Tony at Sportsbikeshop -which are very helpful. I am a size 42" chest and ordered the Kalix 2 in size large (my usual size in jacket). It doesn't have a liner but there is room to fit a fleece under the jacket with no problems. If you're only summer riding you may be able to drop a size. I ordered the Rukka XTR back protector size medium at the same time and it fits perfectly. Very happy, fast delivery from sportsbikeshop.
I bought the Kalix because I was fed up with lined jackets that eventually wet-out. This jacket doesn't do that and water just rolls off it. It's light and not padded but I wear it over a heated jacket. The two work together perfectly. The fit is good, collar and cuffs simple and effective.
For years, when I rode in the rain, I got anxious about getting cold and wet. Now I'm absolutely sure I'll get home warm and dry, however long the journey.
Perfect combination between casual and sports. I bought this jacket mainly for commuting , be aware on the size/ stretch as I had to get a size smaller than usual . Top quality product, made to last
A fantastically versatile jacket, with a good level of protection, generous fit and water resistant zips and pockets.
This is my second jacket, the first doing 6 years and now continuing as an Off Road option.
Feels right in the winter as well as summer months due to its generous zipped bents at shoulder, back and sides, which considering the functionality, is a credit to the design team!
Been all over the UK and Europe in the Kalix, and rate it a strong 9.5 out of 10.
Having rear back and chest protectors included at the price would make it a 10/10
