If it feels like armour in your bike kit then the law demands it is actually proper, protective armour. Here's how to tell how effective your impact protection is...
These are soft and flexible when worn, but become hard and tough during an impact.
They're also big which means they cover a large area, but not bulky or uncomfortable.
D3O, you can't go wrong. As these armour pieces (they come as a pair) are bigger than most the coverage is better than most, so they're safer whilst also being completely comfortable when worn.
These were replacement pads for my 9 years old Rukka jacket, a perfect fit and very comfortable in jacket.
Although they state they are specifically for Rukka jackets, because of their larger overall size, they fit perfectly on my ARMR Kiso jacket (the stock shoulder pads are similar shape and size to these). Because they are Level 2 they are a bit bulkier that I would prefer, but not so much that I care. They reassuringly wrap around my shoulder nicely, and offer way better protection than all the D3Os I have tried. The size is 23 cm long x 19 cm at the widest point, tapering in, but only slightly.
