Advice & Guides Waterproof textile jackets don't have to be a big-money affair. Here are five budget belters...

Customers are generally quite happy with this jacket, noting its comfort, warmth, and waterproof capabilities, even during adverse weather conditions. Many appreciate the adjustable fit, ventilation, and protective features like elbow armor. Some customers mention it being a bit tight around the collar or lacking a back protector, which they had to purchase separately. Generally regarded as well-constructed, it seems to be a worthwhile investment, especially given Oxford's reputation for quality in similar products.
Fantastic jacket, it is quite heavy but I like that as it feels solid and good quality. Has kept me warm and dry on some very wet and cold days. Decent pockets too.
Bought this suit last week and got to try it for a 200 mile ride in the wet (above drizzle but below torrential). Performance was very good , sleeve did let water in but could blame that on glove fitment. Yes I know the 5.0 version is out but wanted to use this in dirty weather and for the complete suit less than £200 no brainer.
Fit fit, comfortable. Warm and had a trip in the rain with it and kept me dry.
A brilliant jacket, ticks all the boxes.
Garment is very comfortable with great protection from the elements at a reasonable cost
Great value. Nothing to dislike yet.
Good value jacket - perfect fit and not heavy (even with armour). Internal removable quilt for colder days
I was loaned a set of these (jacket and trousers) by sportsbikeshop when sending my Alpinestars Andes v3 set back for inspection as I was getting wet through on my commute.
I can say that this gear isnt up to the level of the Andes V3. I will admit my commute is long, at 2 hours and 116 miles and I seem to favour doing it during the storms we've been having but I arrived both at work and at home completely wet through.
I have become accustomed (spoiled) by the alpinestars flex armour in their gear and to go back to more traditional hard armour inserts was challenging. In fact I removed the elbow protection as I found it to dig in which just wouldn't do on a long ride. There is, as usual these days, no back protector in the jacket either.
The zip arrangement on the sleeves is confusing. There is a two way zip that goes along the forearm to the cuff which I guess is for ventilation but just leads to a zip under your glove alongside a small velcro wrist strap to tighten the cuff. The sleeve opening didnt feel big enough to easily get a glove under and so I ended up wearing them over the top which didnt provide much wrist flexibility.
The zip together for the trousers is a short (maybe 6 inches or so) elasticated section at the back which doesn't feel all that secure at holding the two pieces together and definitely doesn't provide any form of weather protection either.
I had the black pair which do have some "reflective details" I've no idea how visible I am because I cant see myself from afar... but I didnt feel as visible as in my usual lighter coloured gear!
I was in for a pair of pants, which my wife ended up buying me as a Christmas present, and while I had the grey version of this jacket, it was always a bit tight, so being already prepared to spend £100 or so anyway I thought I'd get a bigger one of these in the same colour as the pants. What can I say? Montreal 4, it's a great jacket. If these do the trick on Jan 6th when I'm forced to go ride up to Tamworth against my better judgement, then they'll be pretty great for Ireland in the Spring.
So far I’ve only worn it twice but it’s very comfortable to wear and up to now it’s been warm and waterproof. It’s a good fit and the lining is removable for use in warmer weather. Good value jacket and great service as always from Sportsbikeshop. Very pleased.
Fits well, good quality and very good value for money
Good fit, went for XXL rather than usual XL and its still a bit snug with base layers & the quilted liner in, but not too bad.
Doesn’t come with a back protector and unfortunately the pocket is too small for the one I’ve got.
Warm and waterproof so far.
It’s an absolute bargain at £85 (was £200) although this is because the 5.0 version has just come out.
Excellent well made jacket. May need to buy one size up as it is tight around the waist for us older chaps, good length though.
Not tried in the rain yet but looks like it will do the job.
If you are a larger chested woman then this will be perfect for you
Excellent jacket, warm, comfortable, waterproof & great value
Manufactured well and great price
Amazing build quality for the money. Medium weight with a true to size fit for me and decent arm length. Cuffs are Velcro adjustable and can be made to fit under or over your gloves. The Oxford back protectors (separate purchase) fit well. So far good in cold and wet conditions. Only feature I would change is the neck adjustment which would be better for me if Velcro. There are 2 studs, the widest is tight (on an XL) and you would need a bean pole of a neck to use the tightest adjustment stud. But for less than £100 it’s a minor issue.
Was a nice fit, just ordered my normal size, not tried out yet but seems well made.
