Advice & Guides Gore-Tex not keeping out water? There's a different procedure to getting it sorted, and here's an explainer...

I bought the Rev it Poseidon 3 jacket and Trouser to replace my 15 yo Hein Gerrick Jacket and Held trousers that BTW are still waterproof and comfy but the velcro has gone an they are frayed and shabby with ingrained dirt. After looking round for a long time I went for Poseidon 3, it ticked the main boxes for me Laminated, Gore Tex and plenty of pockets, well not plenty but at least adequate. I bought the trousers just so I had a matching set. After a 9 day trip to the Grand Alps and Gorge du Verdon in Sep 2025 I think I've got a balanced view of it all. Well I had one day of 7 hours of rain with periods of heavy rain and one day with 2 torrential thunderstorms and I stayed perfectly dry inside my jacket and trousers, and the pockets stayed dry as well. When the temp was north of 27 degrees I didn't feel cooked. So they've done what I wanted them to do but I do have comments. The jacket was £700 but no back protector, really? The jacket has 2 inside pockets but only one inside pocket in the thermal liner why? The trouser pocket zips a are vertical and the pockets shallow and so I felt like I would lose the pocket contents if the zips were not pulled up all the time, The trousers are stiff and they are also manage to be clingy, which didn't change over the 9 days and 2500 miles. The cuffs cinch up with velcro, how long is the velcro going to last? The storm collar is like an after thought, cheap and very thin. I sit behind a large screen and so the jacket vents don't get the force feed that they need and my back protector stops air getting to my back anyway, also, while sitting the trouser vents are horizontal unable to take air in, so I can only see these vents being of any use to riders who do a lot of riding stood up. The biggest surprise for me was that the jacket and trousers are cold. With my HG jacket I wouldn't expect to fit the thermal liner above 5 degrees, maybe a light jumper, and my Held trousers never need the thermal liners. With the Poseidon jacket and trousers I felt really cold if the temp fell below 15 degrees, a light jumper didn't cover it and the storm collar may keep some wind and rain off but it has no thermal qualities at all. I am going to have to consider the weather more carefully and get used to fitting the thermal liners more often, speaking of which I cannot comment on how good they are as I didn't think I'd need them. This jacket can't hold a candle to my HG jacket, probably because its not designed with UK weather in mind, maybe somewhere milder. My HG jacket was £250 15 years ago so for Rev It to charge me £1200 for the pair is difficult to reconcile. I hope this helps.
This is the best bike jacket I've ever worn. It's kept me dry in a 3 hour ride through monsoon-like conditions. It fits well, is ultra-adjustable including the armoured points. The thermal lining can be easily removed for summer. The only negative is I wish it was a bit cheaper!
My first Gore-tex jacket and it hasn't disappointed so far.
Been used in heavy rain and I've remained dry. Ridden in 0 degree temperatures and it's keep me warm. Loads of excellent features. All the vents and removable liner make this jacket an excellent purchase for less than £800. Highly recommend.
Bought to replace Rev -it jacket that the zip had failed so it was an upgrade on that one and glad I did! First time out caught in Welsh hailstorm for 50 minutes and no damp patches to be found when I arrived! Lots of pockets and adjustable straps well thought out jacket very happy
Bought this jacket to replace one damaged in an accident. It's totally waterproof as proven on a ride to York via Scarborough. It poured of rain the whole ride, but not a drop got through. Great fit and the Velcro on the wrist made it easy to fit under or over gloves. Service from SPORTSBIKESHOP was exemplary. I did all the research and bought the wrong jacket. SPORTSBIKESHOP allowed me to change and gave me the advice to buy the right jacket.
On the way to Scotland I called into the Boston branch of SBS to get the correct attachable collar - somehow sent with the wrong one. The staff were once again informative and helpful. Resolved the problem in no time. Then the great journey started as did the rain which continued for 3 days. But with the trousers this Rev'it combination kept me dry and with the thermal liners in place, warm. Can't recommend then highly enough, nor for that matter SBS.
