Pinlock Ear Plugs
Customer Product Reviews
These work well, the only problem is the ability of the red filter inserts to get lost. Try finding one on a car park with very grainy tarmac. The plugs are built to last longer than others I have tried, but if they came with a spare set of the red inserts, it would be a plus (for half wits like me anyway).
2 for the price of 1
I've been using disposable foam earplugs up till now, but found it quite wasteful. Bought these with a few other things from SBS for a trip and I've been impressed so far. Easy to fit, and the tab for pulling them out is still intact, a positive sign that material choice and assembly is good. There are 2 sets supplied, a small pair and larger. To my delight, the large pair fit me, and the smaller pair my pillion rider aka my wife. No brainer for my wallet and heating protection alike!
Good quality and comfort
I bought these to replace a pair of moulded ear plugs and with a cost difference of nearly £100 it was a bit of a no brainer to give these a try. They are comfortable and stop all the worst background noise but still allow you to hear whats going on with the bike and around you. I would guess they would also be good if you have in helmet comms/speakers too. Longest ride so far has been about 120 miles and they were comfortable all the way - easy to put in and take out and can be cleaned unlike the fiddly foam ones. Good product for the money
Pinlock ear plugs
Bought these as all others I tried were so quiet when riding I felt a bit isolated from bike. These were fantastic I hear most things cars, other bikes and what my bike is doing, and the wind noise is a whisper with both helmets full and open face. Not tried with my intercom yet. The smaller plug I tried but had to get them pulled out by wifey with tweezers.
Previously had a set of these that I got for free with a helmet so when they were lost I felt like I needed a new pair. I find that they fit my ears well and block enough wind noise to make riding comfortable. Because of the filters it means that you can hear people speaking better than with normal foam ear plugs as well. Don't buy them for the 'special' case, it's just some molded polystyrene. Some reviews have said they don't fit their ears but I haven't personally found that to be the case and I like that they don't press against my helmet at all once it's on so don't cause pressure points.
Look at other brands for quality and value
Poor quality case a real disappointment. I didn't realise how important this was at the time, but compared to another, cheaper product it's quite poor value for money. The smaller tips must be for children and of no benefit. I bought a fantastic alternative product elsewhere so my advice is keep looking.
Mixed feelings, mostly good
Good points: - 2 different sizes - Good noise reduction - Good solid seal once the right size is fitted Bad points: - The "unique case" is nothing more than a piece of carved polystyrene - This may be more to do with my ears, but I found the large size to be slightly too big, bordering on uncomfortable, and the smaller size slightly too small, and not providing the same level of noise reduction. For this reason, I've had to stick with the larger size, which are OK for shorter rides and commuting, but for longer trips I'll probably stick with disposables. Overall though, would recommend.
