The label inside your boots will tell you about what tests they've gone through, and how they did. Here's how to decipher those labels for yourself...
I have just had a pair returned as they leaked at the toe after 10 days of use I am advised this is acceptable by the standard they are designed and built to leaking is acceptable
The reply was after testing my returned boots, which I question as still dirty on the bottom:-
As showing in the photo attached, these boots are made to the standard EN13634 2017. To meet this standard, the water ingress test involves walking or replicating 1km in shallow water 2 cm's above sole line, after the test the inside of the boot must not show dampness/leak no bigger than 3cm. These boots showed no water ingress to this standard
There is a link to the CE standards on the description but there is no quote of the CE standard the boots are built to ,only the statement;-
'High-Tex waterproof and breathable internal membrane
Apparently waterproof means you get get 3cm of wet area in your boots when riding
I had the previous style pair from 2017 and with stiching failing they are still waterproof completely
Great service as usual, vast variety of boots to choose from, 100% happy with my final choice, great service and lovely staff.
Nice looking boots and comfortable straight away. One tiny bit of untidy stitching with loose ends.
Not worn in the rain yet, I am wary others have said the waterproofing fails.
These boots are nice boots to wear and use on the bike but are not waterproof as advertised. They should be removed from the 'waterproof' section . I had used the earlier design of this boot since 2019, and found they were waterproof until this year when they started to leak . I liked the boot so just wanted a replacement. These newer boots did not keep the rain out on the first day of use. I returned them. If you do order any then I found they fit a bit tight so needed a size bigger.
Although initially pleased with my purchase, my low score reflects the poor performance in wet weather. Bought as my winter go to boots, they leaked badly during a summer trip to Sweden. Boasting a waterproof membrane and an apparently robust construction, I had expected much better! Having returned the boots to SBS I was also disappointed to see no physical signs of testing and no report to explain which testing criteria had been used. I realise that not all membranes approach the performance of Goretex and Event but if advertised as waterproof then I would expect the first years performance to reflect these claims!
This is my first complaint however and I have been using SBS for many years, and will continue to do so!
Great ankle boot, well made and comfortable on and off my Bike. good construction/protection particularly around the ankles, heals and gear change area
These boots were comfortable from the start and the fit is great. I've already used these boots on a 400 mile round trip with no problems.
These were a recommendation and so glad they got recommended, they feel really secure on and get a good range of moment and with the fact they are fully waterproof is a bonus. worn these for a 12 hour ride with a bit of walking and felt like I just had normal trainers on
This is my second pair and I have worn them constantly, the easiest boots to live with, I have large calves, very wide feet and a high instep so higher leg boots are often uncomfortable for me. These I wore all the way from Portsmouth down through France and Spain over two days 1500 miles with no problems. I also wore them on a 3000 mile tour to Austria/Italy again brilliant!
