Advice & Guides Sports helmets are straightforward, lightweight lids that suit riding on road and track
Customers praised the helmet’s lightweight comfort, secure fit and premium build, with many saying it feels stable and quiet at speed. Ventilation, visor clarity and the Pinlock system were often highlighted as strong points. A few customers noted quirks with the visor mechanism, occasional noise, and fit differences until the padding bedded in. Overall, most customers felt it was a high-quality, confidence-inspiring helmet worth the investment.
The micro head wobbles I did not realise I had when riding my Fireblade seem to have disappeared! A big plus. I appreciated the attention given to me when trying to choose a helmet. I tried on so many my ears hurt!
I used the predecessor of this helmet (the NXR) for over 10 years. It was a brilliant helmet, so I assumed the Mk2 version would be better in every way. From a safety point of view, it probably is, but that has compromised some of the convenience aspects of the original NXR I really liked. The most annoying is how easy the old visor was to remove for cleaning. The new locking mount is no doubt more secure, but getting the visor off is an absolute pain in comparison to the original NXR. The second issue is the ease with which the visor could be raised during riding, if required (eg when stationary at traffic lights). The original NXR had a tab to the left, whereas on the MK 2 the visor locks in the down position (safer, no doubt) and can only be released by pushing a central release button, which is far harder to do with a gloved left hand.
Regarding quietness, yes it's quiet, but only if you have everything completely closed and use the chin curtain. Crack open the visor even slightly and you'll get a whistle. Open any of the vents and the noise increases significantly. That's on a naked xsr900, though. Same goes if you don't use the chin curtain - you get wind noise that goes away if you put your hand directly under your chin. Fitting the chin curtain does the same. Again, I would just reiterate that this is on a naked bike, with no screen.
So this is another excellent helmet from Shoei, but in terms of day to day use, I actually preferred the original NXR.
Lightweight with good visibility. Shame there is no sunshades. Service from the MK store was first class and they took time to make sure it fitted by adding extra padding to the top and trying different cheek pads. They explained that women have a different shape head to men which is why extra padding was needed in places.
Very pleased with the helmet but even more pleased with the service received from Ryan at Sportsbikeshop.co.uk. He had my new helmet delivered to his store then swapped my intercom off my old helmet to the new one, then posted the new one out to me also with the pin lock fitted. Fantastic service.
For me, this helmet is comfortable, light, well-ventilated and quieter than I expected, with a good field of view through the visor, which I can crack open slightly, or to any of the clearly defined steps, as required. To my surprise, I quickly adjusted to the central visor tab and can easily press the catch and open it with just my forefinger. The strap fastens with a double D ring, which I prefer. It is proving to be not only a fine replacement, but even an improvement on my beloved Shoei Ryd which I used beyond its recommended life span.
Helmet feels very comfortable, almost you dont hear anything, and is very light, you dont feel on your header, i order a M, but is a little bit to thigt, in rest very good.
The helmet is comfortable. The vents in this hot weather work well for around the top of your head and face without it being noisy. It is a good idea that you are able to close the visor leaving a small gap without it being closed fully. The NXR looks good too.
Excellent fit. Light weight. Delivered on time and well wrapped no problems
The helmet is perfect, but the matt finish is easy to scratch. I'd rather buy a glossy one.
This helmet is really comfortable and it’s so light you hardly feel it, great ventilation as well, I highly recommend this lid, now time to do some serious touring…
Absolutely awesome helmet. It’s been a few years since I last had a Shoei helmet and I’m so glad I headed back to the brand. Perfect fit and very quiet at speed. Looks the dogs too. Highly recommend 5?
I bought the NXR 2 to replace my old XR1100 as the lining had perished and parts were no longer available. Comparing against that XR1100 which was a bit more race focussed:
Noise - It's definitely quieter than the XR1100
Ventilation - Much better and kept my head nicely chilled today (30 degrees C)
Weight - Alledgedly it's only 100 grams lighter than my previous helmet but it feels much lighter. It must be better shaped as I'm not feeling any wind pressure while riding at speed.
Visor - A bit more fiddly to swap than the old one but it seals well and locks shut.
This helmet is very high quality, the visor has so many notched positions and the vents are super easy to use with gloves, the paint finish is superb and I’m simply in love with it now.
Searched for a quality helmet to match my new bike and this one was perfect !
Swift delivery and service.
Very pleased with how it feels and looks but bike arrives on Thursday so will be out and about
Thank you
I like the fit of the shoei nxr2 must have the right head shape as I also have a shoei Jo both helmets are size large the nxr2 is tighter to get on but that's to be expected with a full face compared to an open face, but once my head pops in it's a perfect fit just like the Jo. The vents work very well and have two open settings and feel very robust, the pinlock is included and the visor is easy to remove and replace once you get the nack. The helmet in my opinion is nice and quiet, even with the visor cracked on the first setting which is just right even at speed on a hot day. And the Matt blue goes very nicely with the honda matt jeans matalic of my tank.
I've used Schuberth Flip helmets for over 15 years, but needed something lighter due to neck issues. 1st ride was an 1,800 mile tour of France in 35' heat. The helmet excelled, ventillation was good, fit was excellent and so light I didnt know it was on my head. Fitting a cardo that I ordered at the same time was a breeze. The service from sportsbike shop was excellent as always.
The Shoei NXR2 is a brilliant upgrade to the original NXR, with improved safety features and an impressive 5-star SHARP safety rating. It’s incredibly comfortable to wear, feels slightly lighter than the previous model, and offers good wind noise management, making it easy and comfortable to listen to music on longer rides if that’s something you enjoy.
The overall quality and finish are exactly what you’d expect from Shoei, with excellent attention to detail throughout. The fit is superb, and the helmet feels secure without compromising on comfort. I also absolutely love the graphics on this one—they really stand out and give the helmet a premium look.
Overall, the NXR2 is a fantastic helmet that combines safety, comfort, and great styling. Highly recommended.
Just to add that it comes with a clear visor. I bought a separate photochromic visor as you can see on pictures
Extremely comfortable, well built, easy to fit comms due to speaker pockets, glasses slide in with no issues, good ventilation.... Perfect! :-)
