Customer Reviews for Shoei Hornet ADV - Gloss White

Great Shoei Hornet

Typical Shoei helmet, excellent build quality and a really good fit. I was surprised at how quiet and stable it is at motorway speeds, very impressed. Sportsbike shop service was also excellent, order placed at 4pm, helmet delivered lunchtime next day.

A bit disappointing

I have owned multiple Shoei's over the years. No other brand seems to fit as well. Recently taken up trail riding so wanted a helmet I could use on road and with Goggles and adventure helmets are meant to be much cooler than a full face. So after trying on various helmets I settled on this. My normal road helmet is a GT Air 2. The Hornet is very loud in comparison and the ventilation is poor. With all the vents open you wouldn't notice they were. It is also incredibly Loud in comparison. Wouldn't recommend this as a helmet for off-road where you want better ventilation. If your after a helmet for the road the gt air 2 is much better. On the upside, it is very comfortable and the overall built quality is what you'd expect from a shoei helmet. Great service as always from Sportsbikeshop.

Very good helmet

My first adventure helmet, bought to replace a AGV that just didn't break in as hoped and was causing a forehead pressure point. Having owned a Shoei Quest before that, I knew a Shoei would be more comfortable. I was right. Feels similar to the Quest. So, so comfortable (wore it for a 3 hour ride with no issues). Peak works well with little drag. Visor is super wide so great vision. Comms installed with no issues. Visor and peak easy to remove for cleaning. DD is my preferred fastening too. Slight rattle coming from the top (vent?) so I need to investigate that. Great service and bank holiday price from Sportsbikeshop (particularly the manager at Leeds). Overall, I'm very happy.

Brilliant Adv helmet!

Bought this to use alongside a Shoei Qwest and was pleased to find they do size the same. Helmet is very comfortable, surprisingly quiet and gives a really good field of view. Peak works very well so I don't need to use sunny's and it's very hard to most the visor up with the pinlock in place. My first peaked helmet and very impressed.

Very good buy

Not had this helmet very long, but first impression are = It's very comfortable visor works great, quieter than my NeoTec. Once worn in a bit it will be even better. Wide vision and more room in the front area. I like it, a good purchase.

Looks, feels great

My third Shoei in 12 years, awesome quality. I had a DS for 100000 km recently and now I am going for the Hornet ADV in the same size.

Not as good as expected

I bought this to replace a Shoei Qwest, with my criteria being comfort, larger eye port and pinlock. I've been commuting with it now for a few weeks. First off, it may be more comfortable than the old Hornet but its no where near as comfortable for me as the Qwest, and I did try a brand new Qwest on as well for comparison. a) the lining is far 'rougher' and b) the Qwest fits much better, feeling very refined almost like I'm not wearing a helmet at all as opposed this Hornet. I feel as though I could go to sleep with the Qwest on whereas the Hornet ADV would be a stretch at 2 hours. I also have an issue with the Pinlock. The pins on the either side of the visor hit the visor gasket as I open the visor to its fully open position, and again when closing. The gasket therefore will tear long before the helmets 5 year life span. Also when you actually fit the Pinlock, peripheral vision becomes significantly reduced, offsetting the benefits of the larger eye-port. Peripheral vision is important to me as I commute in London, as is Pinlock in winter to prevent fogging. I believe Pinlock could be far better designed if it weren't regarded as an afterthought by helmet manufacturers. There's a noticeable increase in weight between the Qwest and Hornet Adv. This however does not bother me while riding as its quite well balanced. Good points - peak works very well, cannot feel any drag at motorway speeds. Just as quiet as my old Qwest. In summary - I tried many different helmet brands and styles and ended up with only 2 options based on the fact that everything else was just too uncomfortable 1) Hornet Adv 2) another Qwest. With the benefit of hindsight, if I were to do it again, I would go with option 2.

Awesomely quiet

Great helmet, very quiet, very roomy and very comfortable! Has got a visor quick release but you still have to take the peak off to remove it. Only downfall I know is the visors are quite expensive especially silver iridium!

Top of the class

Comfy, quiet, awesome vision. Having had a Hornet DS for the past many years, the list-of-improvements from reviews made me go for this again rather than another brand. And improved it has! I ride it on a F800GS both on- and off-road. The DS was great, but riding the two back-to-back the improvements are very noticeable. Super comfy day long, be it fast motorway or sweaty dirt tracks. Some reviews mention the ADV being heavier than the DS: in my S size the ADV is actually a few grams lighter, and the better balance make it feel much lighter ! Also my Sena SMH5 headset fits nicely in the dedicated recesses (after removing the ring from around the speakers). Overall definitely "you get what you pay for".
