Reviews We were given early access to Shoei's hottest new helmet... and here's our verdict
Customers highlight the Neotec 3 as a high-quality helmet with excellent comfort, superior ventilation, and noise reduction compared to its predecessors. They praise the modular mechanism, sun visor, and improved chin and head ventilation. Some find the chin strap slightly short and mention the visor's unlocking mechanism as fiddly. Many find it worthwhile even with a high price, while others recommend it only if replacing an older model. Compatibility with intercom systems like Cardo is appreciated, and the overall build quality impresses most users.
I initially tried the Schuberth as I wanted the in built comms but unfortunately the chin strap buckle was digging into my throat which is a major design flaw on their part. I still wanted a major brand helmet so Shoei was a natural next step. I followed the advice of the guys in store on fitting and padding inside the helmet and within days I was on tour to Spain wearing the new helmet. Unfortunately, the 35 pads that come with the helmet had been swapped out for 39’s for snugger fit and they caused a huge pain in my ear canal on both sides. I first thought it was the Sena speakers of my 50S but through a bit of feeling about I worked out that it was the cheek pads. I unclipped both pads and ripped a layer of stuck on sponge from both sides but this wasn’t effective. I was in so much discomfort that I took off just one cheek pad and ripped off a whole cheek section to see whether that would work. I’m happy to say that it did. The rest of the tour was comfortable and I now love the Shoei Neotec 3. As a note though, I have VERY bendy ears (like I’ve got no cartilage at all) so even sponge would bend my ear. If you have the same lug oles then go for a smaller cheek pad in my opinion.
The only negative on the helmet is that the air filter on the head has no mesh inside so insects can enter. That could do with a look at.
I’ve owned a used a Neotec 3 since they first launched and when my partner decided she wanted to join me out on the bike, there was only one option! Top build quality, comfortable with great features. The ability to seamlessly integrate the Sena system is the icing on the cake. As always with SBS, a fantastic price with exceptional service.
Great helmet it fits my head perfectly, chin strap and visors easy to adjust only downside is a replacement visor is expensive to replace!
I’ve owned dozens of lids having ridden bikes for 45 years, the Neotec 3 is in a different league. Super comfortable with a firm hold. My first ride was 3hrs with all seasons as I crossed the Pennines, no misting pin lock), great sunshade & flip front were all easy to operate. 10/10
I have the matt black NT3 so I know how well it performs. I find the cheek pads tight though and SBS swapped them out for free, which was great. Good fitting and advice service plus usual great team at MK. Helmet itself looks great in these colours.
I use this helmet the most. At first a small felt tight but nice and medium too big. I brought this in small and after 20 mins of riding it was unbearable to wear the headache I got was hard to focus on anything but that.. however I brought the slimmer headliner and check pads and now it feels like a custom tailored helmet. Would definitely recommend the quality is great.
Really confortable and practical helmet, nothing bad to say about it, just maybe the straps could be a bit bigger but apart from that I love it.
This is the third Neotec l have owned. I started with the Neotec and then the Neotec 2 now the Neotec 3. They have improved each time they have brought a new model out. The 3 is a perfect fit for my head. I must have a Shoei shaped head. The ventilation is excellent and easily adjustable. It took a while to get used to the visor catch, as it is now in the centre and not to one side. It is better and easier to open. It is comfortable and l am happy with it. I have a Sena SRL 3 comms fitted. I have had Sena comms on the earlier models too. Excellent as always. The staff at Boston fitted the comms system and Pinlock for me and done an excellent job. Done it quicker than it would have taken me. So l am pleased with my purchase and can thoroughly recommend the Shoei Neotec 3.
The Neotec 3 is in a different league to the majority of modular helmets, as is reflected in the price. I spent months researching, ordering, wearing around the house, no less than 7 medium to high end modulars (courtesy of SportsBikeShop's fantastic free returns service). I didn't want to spend Shoei money. Other models were either comfortable enough but looked like a bobblehead, or compact enough but not so comfortable, or compact and comfortable but skimped on quality. The Neotec 3 had everything, and although pricey especially with the added light smoke visor, I have no regrets and enjoy it on every ride. Pretty quiet compared to my old Caberg, supremely comfortable compared to everything I tried bar one, compact and premium quality feel throughout. Rather harshly I knocked an easy 5 star helmet down to 4 for value, just to reflect the much higher price....there are cheaper, ALMOST as good options.
Having had a cheap helmet for years which was noisy and uncomfortable, I tried about 6 different helmets from SBS and was grateful for the free return service. I then ordered the Shoei neotec-3 to try on in store and got some advice from friendly staff at Norwich about fit and sizing. I finally got the correct size and SBS matched the price for me.
I have now been on a 10 day European trip and have used this helmet the whole time. I am so pleased with it, it is comfortable, quiet and feels such great quality. The internal sun visor is brilliant and the helmet does not feel heavy. No wearing in problems or painful pressure points
I find the left side strap is too short and consequently is quite fiddly to fasten Both the visor release button and the slider for the built in sun visor are not easy to find with gloves on. I was particularly disappointed to find the helmet suffered from just as much wind noise as my previous helmet costing less than half the price. I cannot understand the favorable hype surrounding this particular helmet.
Personalise helmet fit in the shop

Sun Visor positive led flip
This is my second Shoei Neotec, the previous being a Neotec 2. The new updated version has a deeper sun visor and far superior ventilation across the visor and through the top vent. The helmet comes with a fog guard to fir which is easy using the instruction guide. So far it has not fogged up in wet and cooler weather. For me as a trainer this helmet is an excellent choice to rep[lace my 5yr old helmet. Thanks Spostbikeshop once again. Excellent service and competitive pricing.
This is a brilliant helmet, comfortable and quiet, had a neotec 3 grasp before, had nothing but problems with that, but this one is fantastic
Being a blood biker I needed a flip top style helmet, this fits the job 100% from the built in visor, easy operation, comfort and quality. The team at sportsbikeshop are so helpful, when they give me advice on a product I know it s genuine based on product knowledge, not a sales driven transaction.
Probably the best helmet I’ve ever had in 40 odd year of riding. Super comfy and very quiet. I also got the Sena intercom to go with it which is superb
Choose 7 differant flip helmets to try on at my local store in Bristol and the Shoei was by far the best fitment for me, coupled with the differant pad sizes they offer not just in cheek pad sizes but the top as well which enables a near as dam it perfect fit. The help and assistance from Spencer and Declan was 1st class.
Light comfortable and quiet and the flip up front make summer riding that bit more pleasurable. This is my second Neotec 3, I have the Matt black one also. The integrated Sena intercom is a plus as there are no bulky units stuck to the side of the helmet, all buttons are pretty much flush. Venting is perhaps not 100% but I’m just being picky now. Would definitely recommend this helment.
