Dainese D-Air Smart Air Jacket - Black

Bought to replace a Tech Air 3 that packed in after 2 years of use (a lot because I commute). Firstly with electronic gremlins after a firmware update and then it finally developed a wiring fault and would do a flashing/vibrating disco all on it's own. Straight in the bin. Had my monies worth out of it but if I had paid anywhere near RRP I wouldn't have been very happy.

The Smart Air vest is better made, higher quality and fits the body fantastic compared to the Tech Air, a lot lighter and you don't have any discomfort from the electronics and gas canister digging in you or weighing you down.

No option to fit a passive back protector to the vest and not sure what a non-deployment landing in this would be like (not sure if the brain works as some sort of protection????)
You may be able to wear a back protector in your jacket but you may find it uncomfortable with this. I can't wear one and have to put my trust in the vest doing it's job.

Ventilation is not worth commenting on as it's an air bag, so your covering your body in a non-breathable layer. Not any better of worse than any other system and I wear it under my Rukka jacket for reference.

The mobile app is a million times better than the a-stars one and works fine, every time.

Now, the MAJOR bad point. The battery life is ABSOLUTE JUNK! On the Tech Air you will get the stated battery life lasting ages but on the Smart Air you will be lucky to get the advertised 12hrs before needing to recharge the thing.

I'm happy to charge it a lot more often and just deal with it, as I feel the positives outweigh the negatives.

Hope this helps someone before they part with a hell of a lot of money.

Light and easy to use

I bought two of these for my wife and myself following our first accident in 31yrs. I don’t like the ones that look like marine life jackets and these are so discreet that with our black leather jackets you can hardly see them.
I hope that we never get to use it, but if we do I can reset it and change the gas canister and reuse it again 3 times before I have to return it to Dainese for service.

Quality is up the usual Dainese high standard. Does it work? Don’t know and don’t want to find out ?.
With this cost I would have expected them to have chucked in a charger and lead. They could also do with including an idiots guide for setup and first use.
